Hot White Russian

It's February on Vancouver Island, which means we are getting closer to our first blooms of the season, but it doesn't mean winter's cool, wet days are done with us yet! There are a number of recipes for a hot White Russian out there, this is a take on one from Epicurious; I like it because heating all of the ingredients together gives us a super cozy, warming delight. Imagine having a pot of this lovely libation on a fire grate while enjoying the outdoors.
Additional inspiration and the photo were taken from the Beaming Baker, who has some great thoughts on alternate flavours, including replacing plain vodka with flavoured options like Vanilla!

Materials

  • 2. 1/2 Cups Freshly Brewed Coffee
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy whipping cream Regular or lactose free
  • 1/2 Cup Coffee flavoured Liquor Your choice
  • 1/4 Cup Vodka Your choice
  • Additional cream to whip for topping your cocktail

Instructions

  • Place your coffee, unwhipped heavy cream, liqueur and vodka into a saucepan and warm over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
  • Pour the hot mixture into heated cups and top with whipped cream or any other whipped topping you enjoy.
Sprinkle with cinnamon, cardamom or any other warming spice you enjoy!

Notes

  • Kahlua is one of the most popular coffee liqueurs, but other readily available brands like Copa De Oro or Kamora are also tasty alternatives.
  • If you are Vegan or Celiac, there is an option for you too, Try Cafetino Vegan Coffee Liqueur a lovely libation from Spain.
